Test and Balance (TAB, T&B) is the systematic process of testing (measuring) adjusting and balancing all components of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system to ensure that they all perform to the design intent and operate at an optimum level. TAB is a tedious and methodical process that is often the linchpin that ensures that all mechanical components (Control, equipment, electrical, and plumbing) work together as intended. TAB as a trade first came to prominence in 1950s and as the complexity of HVAC systems and the demand for limiting energy costs grew, so did the demand for TAB services.

With the advent of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings and the demand for green-building certification the demand for TAB services and expertise is now growing exponentially. All LEED-certified buildings certified on any level require a certified Test and Balance report.

The following types of systems require some level of testing adjusting and balancing:

  • Chilled and Condenser Water Utility Plants
  • Variable and Constant Volume Air Delivery Systems
  • Heating Water Systems
  • Domestic Water Systems
  • Industries Process Water Systems
  • Split System A/C Units
  • HVAC and Process Steam

In its simplest form, air balancing is the process of testing and adjusting your air conditioning system…
Water Balancing
In its simplest form, water balancing is to ensure proper flow from and to each piece of the HVAC equipment…
Building systems with equipment producing excessive noise (usually generated by motors, fans, and pumps) can be a hindrance to occupants and cause component failure…
As a TAB company we are perfectly suited to determine the operation of an existing HVAC system…
All duct systems are subject to leakage. The ideal air duct system is air tight…
Vibrating equipment can cause noise in tenant spaces, early breakdown of equipment and high repair cost…
The NEBB Fume Hood Testing (FHT) Certification is in accordance with AIHA/ANSI Z9.5, ASHRAE-110 and OSHA…
